(1901) H. J. Heinz sign shop. Interesting to note the sign on the table stating “See our exhibit at the World’s Fair.” The 1901 World’s Fair was held in Buffalo, New York. It is most remembered for the assassination of President William McKinley who could have been saved if the newly invented x-ray machine being debuted at the fair would have been used.

The origins of Heinz’s “57 Varieties”. The number 57 was picked not because of variety, but because of luck. The company had more than 60 products in 1892, so the number 57 was chosen because the numbers “5” and “7” held special significance - “5” was Henry John Heinz’s lucky number and “7” was his wife’s lucky number.
